Meet our team of accountants, advisers, financial planning & mortgage broking staff

Debbie Whiting - Director

I completed a Bachelor of Commerce in 1980 at UWA and became a Chartered Accountant back in 1983 and have been involved with financial planning since 1987 and recently added the Financial Strategist specialisation which applies to independent advisers with specialist knowledge of direct shares.  I initially specialised in superannuation in the early 1980s when I ran the Super division of Ernst and Young Perth. This depth of experience gave me the perfect foundation on which to establish Utopia in 2003, creating a unique business model around my dual accounting and financial planning skills with specialist attention to Self Managed Superannuation Funds.

I founded the firm in 1983 and the name Utopia was inspired by my wonderful days as a University Undergrad at St Thomas More College. Thomas More, the “Man for all seasons," has been my inspiration – he showed ultimate courage, intellect and integrity under the most pressured of situations and ultimately died for his convictions.  Having built a business from a desk in the corner, I understand the risks and pressures small businesses face and the need to adapt and change.

Today, we face different challenges, but strength, intellect and courage are still key attributes required for success and they do not become out of fashion.  The Utopia model seeks to set a target and, using a lot of skill, help a client achieve their financial goal based on astute, independent investments achieving sustainable returns through the cycles of the market.

I've raised three children through tertiary studies, so I understand the pressures on your finances when you are funding children and trying to save for retirement.  When I am not working, I love to travel,  play hockey and go to the movies.

Nancy Liu - Senior Manager

I have a Masters Degree of Professional Accounting and I am a qualified CPA and an SMSF Specialist Auditor.  I am the head of the Acccounting Division at Utopia.  I have more than 13 years experience advising a portfolio of clients on taxation, self managed superannuation funds and business advisory services for small to medium sized businesses in a diverse range of industries.  My areas of expertise include income tax, capital gains tax, goods & services tax, fringe benefits tax and business structuring advice.

I enjoy working closely with clients to ensure they have the skills to effectively manage their businesses on an ongoing basis.  I am passionate about assisting clients in their financial and business success.

Enien Teo - Assistant Manager

After graduating from Curtin with an Accounting degree, I dabbled in Marketing by doing a postgraduate diploma. The Marketing diploma hasn’t improved my selling skills (and hasn't helped me understand salespeople's persistence after you have said "No" a few times), but the accounting degree has come in handy.

I started out working as a bookkeeper for a local cruise company, all the while never going on any of their available cruises. I then went on to work in government at the Department of Sport and Recreation. When the pace got too slow for me, I decided to join Utopia and it hasn’t been slow since.

Outside of my work life, my two monkeys, I mean kids, keep me busy and on the go. When I eventually get some time to myself, I enjoy reading, travelling, cooking and baking whilst slapping hands away from the baking spoon.

Joanne Sim - Assistant Manager

I’ve been with Utopia since July 2007. I have a degree in Commerce from UWA, with majors in Financial Accounting, Managerial Accounting and Corporate Finance.  I am also a CPA.

My hobbies include travelling, playing piano, yoga and swimming.  In addition to that, I have a beautiful baby to keep me busy.

Travis Buck - Assistant Manager
I joined Utopia after graduating from UWA in 2010 with a Bachelor of Commerce majoring in financial and management accounting. I am also a Chartered Accountant.

My hobbies include playing badminton and buying boxes of TV shows and not having enough time to watch them.

  Tehani Jayasekera - Accountant

I joined the Utopia team in January 2013 after graduating from UWA with a Bachelor of Commerce.  I majored in Finance (Corporate & Investment) and Accounting (Management & Financial) and I have a minor in Business Law.  I am currently continuing my studies in accounting and am working towards becoming a Chartered Accountant.

Outside of work, I love to let my creative side loose through drawing and painting and I also enjoy reading, travelling and spending time with my close ones.

  Nicholas Raso - Accountant

I joined the Utopia team as a graduate at the beginning of 2014 after completing my commerce degree at the University of Western Australia majoring in Financial Accounting and Corporate Finance. I now plan to work through the CA program to achieve a qualification as a Chartered Accountant.

Outside of work I am a keen soccer player and enjoy spending time with my mates.

Emanuele Graziani - Accountant

I joined Utopia in 2015 after completing a Bachelor of Commerce at UWA.  I enjoy working here very much and I find my colleagues helpful and knowledgeable.  I will start working towards becoming a Chartered Accountant at the end of this year when I commence the CA program.

Before working at Utopia, and whilst completing my degree, I worked as a musician playing at bars (I was really wicked).  I got to play with different bands and at all sorts of venues around Perth.  It was really enjoyable.

I am currently involved with the Gems/Stones Touch Rugby Conglomerate at Northern Districts Touch Association and we really smash it.  We have taken out a few premierships over the years and we move up divisions fairly regularly.

I try hard to be a good Catholic and I am very thankful for my friends and family.

Libby Macale - Financial Planning Assistant

I have worked as a paraplanner with Utopia since May 2014.  I have been involved in the financial planning process including undertaking research, preparing comprehensive Statements of Advice and some implementing of recommendations.

I have worked at a number of varied and interesting places over my working life including Notre Dame University and the Nedlands Golf Club, the latter which I describe as my only "lifestyle job"!

When I am not at work, I love to spend time with my grandchildren who are the joy of my life.  I also like to travel and spend time in my garden.  In order to manage all of this, I keep fit by running several times a week mainly through our beautiful Kings Park.
Jordan Dawson - Financial Planning Assistant

I have completed a Bachelor of Commerce and a Bachelor of Economics, with majors in Financial Accounting, Investment Finance, Corporate Finance, International Business Economics, Money & Banking.

Prior to working at Utopia, I spent my time working as a gardener and also a chef in a small Italian gourmet store.  Outside of work, I spend the majority of my time engaging in physical activities such as boxing and surfing.  I try to get down south as often as I can to keep in touch with nature as I enjoy its relaxing atmosphere.

Kaileigh Shiner - Mortgage Broking Assistant

I joined Utopia in January of 2015 after working in the retail division of the Westpac Banking Corporation.  While there, I completed my Certificate IV in Banking Services.

I am excited to become a part of Debbie's Mortgage Broking team and I am currently working towards becoming a qualified Mortgage Broker.

In my spare time, you will find me with my family and my puppy, enjoying the sunshine.  I enjoy exploring Western Australia travelling by 4WD and finding places that aren't always on the map.

Barbara Nucibella - Bookkeeper

I have a Bachelor of English, majoring in Foreign Languages and English Literature.
